Grand Chapter is pleased to announce that The Order has made a $10,000 (CDN) donation to our principal charity, Opportunity International, in time for “Giving Tuesday” tomorrow, December 1st. As a result of available matching funds, The Order’s donation will automatically grow to $20,000.
Opportunity International Canada has been named one of the Top 10 International Impact Charities 2019 by independent charity monitor Charity Intelligence. Opportunity International is one of the oldest microfinance charities in the world providing access to small business loans, banking, financial literacy, insurance and training to over five million primarily women entrepreneurs in the developing world working their way out of poverty. Clients in more than 20 countries use these financial services to start or expand a business, provide for their families, create jobs for their neighbours and build a safety net for the future.
To date, The Order of Saint Joachim has donated or assisting in raising almost $300,000 for Opportunity International. Because these are micro-loans and Opportunity International has an over 98% repayment rate, funds donated remain in the charity for over 20 years to improve multiple lives.
